CANALS, RESERVOIRS AND VALLEYS

 

CANAL WALK - Rochdale Canal - Linear walk

This section of Rochdale Canal was between Littleborough and Todmorden, then returning by bus.  But the Canal itself, extends from Manchester to Sowerby Bridge a distance approximately 32 miles.  

Distance : 6 miles return - Level easy canal paths

RESERVOIR WALK - Ogden & Piethorne Reservoir circular walk

There's A small carpark next to Ogden Reservoir to start walk. Over the bridge from carpark, is a network of paths to explore. Ours followed by the side of three further reservoirs close together before returning back.

Distance    5 miles - Level easy trail paths

VALLEY WALK - Ryburn Valley Ripponden circular walk

The walk starts from a small carpark in Ripponden. Through past St Bartholomew's church then along the Ryburn River up to Ryburn Dam with impressive water falls, followed by scenic woodlands to Baitings Reservoir.

Distance :   5.33 miles - Level easy trail paths farmland.

MOORS, HILLS, AND HERITAGE TRAILS

MOORLAND WALK - Cow and Calf, Ilkley Moor Yorkshire

The carpark is within easy reach of walk at the foot of the Cow and Calf with refreshments nearby.  This was a circular walk with wild open moorlands including a pre-historic site of the Twelve Apostle Stones.  

Distance : 6 miles - Level moderate with moorlands

HILL WALK - Pendle Hill, Barley Barrowford

Starting from Barley Carpark near toilets and refreshments. We followed trail paths heading up towards the trigpoint after steep climb to the top of Pendle Hill. Then descending from the far side returning back through Barley village.

Distance - 6 Miles circular -steep ascent Level-moderate

HERITAGE TRAIL - Hardcastle Crags, Gibson Mill Hebden

This is a walk close to the Hebden River which flows through a deep valley.  The Mill (now converted into a museum) has past historical tales about mills, but also provides refreshments. This walk however offers longer trails to follow.

Distance : 4 miles - Level moderate paths some boulders
